Tips on Storage

Unit Size: An average 3-bedroom house requires a 10x20, but consider renting a bigger unit for room to move around inside. Contact us for help in choosing the correct size.

Value: Personal belongings only have emotional value to you. Think about length of storage time versus significance of the property. A $50 monthly rental equals $600 per year. Are your valuables worth $600?

Insurance: Contents of units are not insured at all storage centers, unless offered at an additional cost. Some homeowners' policies may cover them.

Packing the Unit: Place furniture and shelves in first so you can stack boxes and miscellaneous objects on top of them and inside drawers. Fill the spaces in between with flat items and thin materials. Some furniture, including mattresses, may fit better standing up on one end. Also, cover furniture with a blanket, not a plastic tarp, to allow release of moisture. Utilize the height of the unit to stack as high as possible and put items you want to remove first in last. This method also applies to packing a moving truck. Do not store food, plants, or fire hazard substances, such as gas and oil.

Storing Vehicles: Outside storage is usually less expensive; however, under cover better shelters your vehicle from weather damage. RVs are easier to pull forward than back in, but it will be harder to jump-start your engine if the battery dies. Avoid dead batteries by disconnecting them or pay to keep them plugged in and charged. A single-car garage size unit is 10x20. The door must be at least 8 feet wide to drive the car in to the unit.
